Jack E. Fleming, 81, of Sandusky, passed away early Tuesday morning, Dec. 20, 2011, in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Sandusky, son of the late Leroy and Ruby Luella (Cherry) Fleming. Jack was a 1948 graduate of Huron High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean War. He was a tool and die maker at New Departure-Hyatt (Division of General Motors) for 40 years, retiring in November 1992.
Jack was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, UAW Local 913 Retirees, and American Legion Post 83.
He is survived by a stepdaughter Jean (Taylor) Gundlach of Dickson, Tenn.; stepgrandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step- great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia H. “Ginny” Fleming (March 9, 2005); two stepsons, Richard and Larry Mahaffey; his parents; a sister Velda M. Fleming; and two brothers, Robert L. and Herbert C. Fleming.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Jason Kahle will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
