Students at Hancock Elementary learned all about avocados Friday, and for some it was the first time they ever saw the fruit.

Chipotle representative Jennifer Craig, who treated the fifth-graders to Chipotle’s recipe for guacamole, said it's important to introduce children to foods they might otherwise avoid.

“To a lot of kids, (guacamole) would be the scariest item on the menu,” Craig said. “It’s fun to go to schools where they’ve never had this type of food.”

The activity fit with Hancock’s mission to introduce students to more fresh fruits and vegetables by showing them how they’re prepared, principal Kathy Pace-Sanders said.

Here is Chipotle’s guacamole recipe (makes one serving):

- One avocado, peeled and mashed

- One sprinkle of cilantro

- Red onions, diced

- One pinch of diced jalapenos

- A squeeze of fresh lemon and lime juice

- One pinch of kosher salt

* Mix all ingredients together with a fork and serve with tortilla chips. To make Chipotle-style salsa, substitute avocados with diced tomatoes.

@ czechurself, The medium avacado contains 30 grams of fat. As much as a quarter pound burger. That is why it is nicknamed the butterpear. But like you said it is monosaturated fat so it actually helps lower cholesteral levels. Try this:

Two avacados

half a red onion

two jalapenos

juice of one lime

one tomato

cilantro

kosher salt

garlic powder

Cracked Cherry....

Avocados are sodium and cholesterol-free and have less than five grams of fat per serving, most of it the monounsaturated kind so they are very healthy.  4.5 g of Protein,19.62 g of Carbohydrate,1166 mg of Potassium, 23.0 mg of Vitamin C,175 mg Beta-sitosterol, 0 mg Cholesterol ...and theres more!!!

Avacado in a face mask helps to reduce signs of aging, stimulates cell growth, moisturizes, repairs...and when eaten improves brain function!!

Try avocado in place of mayo with tuna...dip veggies or tortillas....yummmm.... and double brain power!!!

I remember seeing avocados in southern CA.  You would pick them to consume.  But, you had to allow them to soften up first.  You cannot enjoy or peel an avocado that is not ripe.  If they are soft to the touch, they are ready.  Living in "global warming" Ohio should soon allow these fruit to flourish.  I am sure you liberal, freak environmentalists could could list that on the "doomsday" record by Al Gore.  Ha! Ha!  I would enjoy being able to pick fruit like avocados, lemons, oranges, grapefruit, etc. right off the tree.  It would be nice for Ohio to become tropical.  How about it liberal losers?  Do you think we could benefit from that "global warming" HOAX after all?  This is a great learning experience for kids to learn where that guacamole comes from.  Most people around here must learn to appreciate avocados and develop a taste for them.  You can nurture the seed of the avocado and make it grow into a plant.  Oops, I guess it will not last long in this "global warming" deep COLD and SNOW right crybaby liberals?  Ha! Ha!

Yummy! Avocados are deelish! Not as easy to come by here as warmer climates but a treat when you find an unblemished one at the grocery store. I love them on eggs, burgers, deli sandwiches or just alone..good for Hancock
