A new federal database lets the curious discover the gassiest.

The U.S. EPA's greenhouse gas emissions database — ghgdata.epa.gov — provides residents a closer look at the companies that are spewing carbon dioxide and methane into the air. The data includes companies that emit the equivalent of least 25,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year.

Among the local companies or entities on the list: Port Clinton landfill; Solae Company in Bellevue; Whirlpool in Clyde; Erie County landfill; and Huron Lime, in Huron.

To read what a Bowling Green State University professor has to say about the data, pick up Tuesday's Register.

I have a better idea; lets put inefficient wind turbines on every available spit of land from mountains to middle of the lake. Maybe the taxpayers can subsidize some more solar companies like Solyndra. Say weren’t they caught destroying millions of dollars worth of new parts and throwing them in a dumpster, no big deal they only owe America half a billion bucks. Not to worry the welfare king and his minions cant wait until gas is $6/gallon; and electricity is $30/kwhr.

Just looked at some real world cold weather Volt testing; pathetic. It averaged 25 mile battery range at –8c. The battery also has to be thermally controlled as they wont charge below 0 degree F. That’s ok, everyone can afford the $100k Tesla EV Roadster, that’s a lot of burger-flippin’ and progress.

Washington, D.C. (January 18, 2012) – LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – called the reported decision by the Obama Administration today to block permitting for Keystone XL pipeline “politics at its worst.”

Last fall the Administration delayed consideration of a permit for the pipeline until after the 2012 elections. Today, in response to Congressional legislation requiring a 60-day decision, the Administration reportedly denied a permit.

“The score is Job-Killers, two; American workers, zero. We are completely and totally disappointed. This is politics at its worst,” LIUNA General President Terry O’Sullivan said. “Once again the President has sided with environmentalists instead of blue collar construction workers – even though environmental concerns were more than adequately addressed. Blue collar construction workers across the U.S. will not forget this.”

The project would create thousands of good jobs at a time when unemployment in the construction industry is 16% with 1.3 million men and women jobless.

Environmental groups have used the Keystone XL as a disingenuous proxy for arguments about global warming. The pipeline would carry up to 900,000 barrels of oil a day from Canada’s Tar Sands to the U.S., reducing reliance on oil from hostile nations. While environmental groups decry Tar Sands development, the Canadian government and Trans-Canada, the company developing the Tar Sands, have made clear the oil will be developed – and possibly sold to China – regardless of whether Keystone XL is built.

In addition, experts believe the project would be the safest ever constructed. Design included 21,000 sensors, monitored by satellites to immediately detect leaks and automatically stop the flow of oil. In addition, a revised route alleviated concerns in Nebraska over the project crossing water resources. Overall, the pipeline has undergone more than 1,100 days of governmental review.

“The Administration and environmentalists have blown the whistle on workers trying to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads,” said O’Sullivan. “Instead of celebrating their victory by hugging a tree they should hug a jobless construction worker because they’re the ones who are going to need it.”

Statement by General President James T. Callahan on the Administration's denial of Keystone XL pipeline permit

Jan. 18, 2012
Statement by International Union of Operating Engineers General President James T. Callahan
on Obama Administration's Decision to Deny
the Keystone XL Pipeline Permit

Today's announcement by the U.S. Department of State to withhold approval of the Keystone XL pipeline is a blow to America's construction workers. As the sector hardest hit by the recession and one that still grapples with an unemployment rate of 16 percent, this project could have been a lifeline to thousands of unemployed Operating Engineers.

The IUOE is deeply disappointed in the Administration's decision. We will continue to work with our partners in labor and the industry to bring vital energy projects online and to create the kind of high-paying, skilled jobs that are so vital to our economy, our members and their families.

The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) represents more than 400,000 members in 123 local unions across the U.S. and Canada, including operating engineers who work as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, surveyors in the construction industry; stationary engineers in building and industrial maintenance; nurses and other health care workers; and public employees.

This is the core idea of every official climate model: For each bit of warming due to carbon dioxide, they claim it ends up causing three bits of warming due to the extra moist air. The climate models amplify the carbon dioxide warming by a factor of three — so two-thirds of their projected warming is due to extra moist air (and other factors); only one-third is due to extra carbon dioxide.

That’s the core of the issue. All the disagreements and misunderstandings spring from this. The alarmist case is based on this guess about moisture in the atmosphere, and there is simply no evidence for the amplification that is at the core of their alarmism.

What did they find when they tried to prove this theory?

Weather balloons had been measuring the atmosphere since the 1960s, many thousands of them every year. The climate models all predict that as the planet warms, a hot spot of moist air will develop over the tropics about 10 kilometres up, as the layer of moist air expands upwards into the cool dry air above. During the warming of the late 1970s, ’80s and ’90s, the weather balloons found no hot spot. None at all. Not even a small one. This evidence proves that the climate models are fundamentally flawed, that they greatly overestimate the temperature increases due to carbon dioxide.

This evidence first became clear around the mid-1990s.

And when should people like Huntsman stop buying what scientists claim?  When they cease being scientists:

At this point, official “climate science” stopped being a science. In science, empirical evidence always trumps theory, no matter how much you are in love with the theory. If theory and evidence disagree, real scientists scrap the theory. But official climate science ignored the crucial weather balloon evidence, and other subsequent evidence that backs it up, and instead clung to their carbon dioxide theory — that just happens to keep them in well-paying jobs with lavish research grants, and gives great political power to their government masters.

The article doesn't even mention the carcinogens that are being spilled into the air and raining down into Lake Erie every day from this plant.

I guess it doesn't matter to anyone commenting here that many lifelong residents of Huron are being diagnosed with cancers of the breast and brain. We have our own cancer cluster here but it strikes people in their thirties and forties instead of children, like in Clyde.

The EPA brags it has power to bypass state legislature, regulating authorities, and congress; ultimately the UN/EPA has power to skirt the constitution.

I have an acquaintance that has devoted his whole civilian life to the environment. He grew up in California and could see the damages of pollution. He has spent numerous years in air emission testing, worldwide. He will be the first to tell you this is no longer a war against pollution but a war to end coal fired and fossil fuel combustion and consumption at any cost.

I find it appalling the power the EPA dictators have. From wanting to label milk spills as hazardous waste to taxing farmers per head of livestock regarding methane. (Sounds like a joke, tax for methane emissions from livestock farts, but they studied it and kicked the idea around.) I believe their number one goal is to make America 100% government dependant, increase utility bills 35%, increase food cost, or to starve us. To the liberals that think this is great and you can be self-sustaining, think again. The EPA wants to regulate compost, community gardens, and you’re hunting ammunition. You can charge your electric car with electricity that will be much costlier than now, then also pay a milage tax.

Looks like Obama caved into the enviro-hippies regarding pipeline. The EPA can create more jobs for the Chinese. The Chinese burning coal have no problem producing Americas green products. Someone said it before, the Chinese are not nearly as dumb as we think.
