County clerk of courts Barb Johnson dead
Oct 31
2011
Barb Johnson, recently resigned Erie County clerk of courts, has died.
The Democrat was first elected in 1988. Today was to be her final day in office. Her term had been scheduled to end January 2013.
County commissioners appointed Luvada Wilson, a longtime court employee who has served as Judge Tygh Tone's bailiff for the past five years, to fill in temporarily until the Democratic Party selects a person to finish Johnson's term.
Her co-workers had said a nagging illness kept her from coming into the office during recent months.
Flags at Erie County offices will be flown at half mast in her honor, Judge Tone said.

Stands to reason, when Barbara Johnson was obviously battling a serious illness and was on a medical leave ~ was even in a nursing home for awhile ~ that Mrs. Johnson sure wasn't involved in any files that "went missing." Yet looking back at all the articles about her --- plus that removejohnson blog ---- I would have to say that it sure does appear like there was a conspiracy to make it look that way.
@ Hey Retiree, how did your Cleveland attorney ever get away with transferring the monies from that illegal court-ordered scam sheriff sale over to the Clerk of Courts office in 2007 without a court order? That certainly wasn't "under the watch" of Mrs. Johnson --- she was on a medical leave. Why don't you call up the crook and ask him ---- or maybe you could ask a certain employee in the Clerk of Courts ----- or maybe you could ask the "honest and respectable" courts of Roger Binette and Beverly McGookey.

The Remove Johnson blog will not have Barb Johnson to kick around anymore. Rest in peace, Barb Johnson. I can say this about Barb. She always returned my phone calls and answered all of my questions, something that other county elected public officials are lacking. Come election time, these public officials will have all of the time needed for their "Feel Good" election rhetoric.

Under Barb Johnson's watch, files went missing...............
Considering how $150K of taxpayer monies "went missing" in the Treasurer's office compliments of a certain employee while under the watch of Jo Dee Fantozz, did you ever consider, SR, that when Barb Johnson was battling a terminal illness and on a medical leave that the files that "went missing" in the Clerk's office was when the office was under the watch of a certain employee?

I knew Barb johnson very well. She was a nice person and very pleasant tobe around. But she and her office is constantly being ransacked by the lawyers/judges in Erie Co. The next person should hve a complete audit and find out whats missing or she will be blamed for it. Judges clean up your acts.

The SR reports that under Mrs. Johnson's watch files went missing.............
I beg to differ on that. I once found something in a file that was listed as "missing", but Mrs. Johsnon was on medical at the time. It was a Judgment Entry pertaining to a Hearing that was held without notifying all the parties and was sent to an incorrect address per the instructions of a common pleas court magistrate and returned by the Post Office the next day. A certain employee in the Clerk of Courts claimed that the missing document might have been put into another file by mistake and would turn up sooner or later ---- yet when Mrs. Johnson returned to work she seemed perplexed as to why the document had been listed as "missing" in the file. According to Mrs. Johnson the document was never missing to begin with ---- the Common Pleas Court of Roger Binette had it.

When Erie County claimed they needed a 4th judge because of the backlog of cases created by Judge Maschari, didn't they say that Tone and Binette were going to share the same Court? Obviously, that was a lie because Binette got the court on the 2nd floor and Tone took over the 3rd floor. Isn't that when they moved the Clerk of Courts office from the 3rd floor to the little office on the 1st floor? That office on the 1st floor is so small I don't know how it could accommodate more than three employees much less all the Clerk of Courts records --- yet Barb Johnson was given the added responsibility of all the filings of ANOTHER Common Pleas Court judge.
And then there's all that crap about online records. The county commissioners claimed Barb Johnson had the money to get the records online but I personally don't believe it --- and that's because I was told by the Erie County RECORDER'S office not too long ago that the reason the RECORDER'S OFFICE doesn't have ALL ACTS UPON PROPERTY online is because "it's too expensive and Erie County doesn't have the money."
So if Erie County doesn't have the money to get ALL records online in the RECORDER'S office, where were they getting the money to get records online in the CLERK OF COURTS office?

Well aren't you just high and almighty. You are right. It was all of our rants about her on this blog that did her in. Because someone dies we can't say that they didn't do their job properly? Get a life! She had no business being in that position.

What is wrong with using wording such as passed away or deceased?
"County clerk of courts Barb Johnson dies" would have been a better headline.
"Barb Johnson, recently resigned Erie County clerk of courts, has died" would also be a more appropriate headline.

The Sandusky Register's title to this story is disturbing. It is very abupt and I feel rude to her family. What is wrong with using wording such as passed away or deceased? Have some compassion.

All I can say is that if you feel you can do the job better, run for the office. I really don't think that the voters of Erie County are unitelligent and just running on the Democratic ticket does not guarantee you will win

All I can hope for is that Erie County officials were able to get all THE FILES that held OUR PERSONAL INFORMATION from her home before they end up in the hands of those not authorized to access OUR PERSONAL INFORMATION. I for one do not want to end up a statistic as a victim of identity theft due this woman (may she RIP) who against all rules and common sense took and kept files of numerous Erie County residents at her home for God only knows what reason.
Those of you who claim that she was such an upstanding employee - must not have much concern for your own personal information just floating around, available to anyone that had access to her home. I on the other hand was not comfortable with this work ethic orshall I say lack of. The next candidate will be asked if he or she plans to follow this practice.

eightballcuet1,
Many of the citizens of Erie County WEREN'T happy with Johnson's oversight of the clerk's office. There have been myriad articles and their accompanying comments that attest to that.
In Erie County, you have an advantage merely by being on the ballot with a capital "D" after your name. But even if that weren't true, do you really think voters always vote intelligently and for the best candidate? I'll bet BOTH of us can come up with a list as long as your arm of officeholders that prove just the opposite!

You say Ms Johnson was inept at her job? Then why did she she serve 21 years in office? I'll tell you why, because the citizens of Erie County were happy enough with her work that we kept voting for her. RIP Ms Johnson and thank you for your MANY years of service!!!

A noticeable absence in the Erie County clerk of courts office has some public officials scratching their heads.
Clerk of courts Barb Johnson is suffering from a serious illness and has been out of the office for months, according to a doctor's note from Erie County coroner Brian Baxter.
Baxter declined to specify the nature of Johnson's illness and also refused to answer questions "about a patient," though the note he provided advised anyone with questions about Johnson to contact him.
The note said Johnson was in a hospital or nursing home from Oct. 12 to Jan. 15.
Rest in peace, Barb Johnson

I thank Barb Johnson for her service that she gave to our county. My thoughts and prayers go to her family, friends and fellow workers . I just pray that the last things that she heard when she took her last breath were not some of the complaints that have been made on this blog.

Mrs. Johnson was hopelessly inept at her job long before any claims of an illness, serious or otherwise.
Her poor job performance, however, in no way suggests that she was a bad person or that her friends and family aren't grieving today. I have never pretended I'd be less than thrilled to see her leave office. I am not remotely glad, however, that she's died. Condolences to all who will miss her.

I'm sorry of her passing but that has nothing to do with her job performance. I believe with many others that her performance was terrible.
As I stated before, no matter who the liberals put on the ballot, if they are of my black race they WILL win. Sadly, my race usually votes color over qualifications or character.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I can't blame Ms. Johnson for protecting her status with health insurance while still being employed and critically ill. There are laws that protect her rights and she used them to stay covered by insurance. Anyone would have done the same thing when a critical illness hits you. You have enough to deal with without having to worry about the medical bills being paid. You can't imagine this overwhelming situation. You have to walk in her shoes, and I hope no one ever has to go through that situation. If she had quit prematurely, her benefits may have not stretched to cover her.
