The Mailbag: Are Marcy Kaptur and Dennis Kucinich visiting Tsubaki?
Sandusky

Q: We heard Marcy Kaptur and Dennis Kucinich will be stopping by the Tsubaki plant (the former Union Chain) picket line on Monroe and Cement St. on Saturday starting with Marcy @ 11:00 a.m. followed by Dennis at Noon. Is this true? Those people have been replaced with scab workers, and have been out there on the picket lines for a year as of Jan. 31.— Thanks, Carol on the west end, Sandusky

A: Thanks for writing Carol. The three candidates vying for the Democratic nomination in the 9th Congressional District are scheduled to attend an NAACP forum Saturday in Sandusky. As per an item in today's Register, Dennis Kucinich, Marcy Kaptur and Graham Veysey plan to speak at the forum at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St. The event, featuring candidates in a number of area races, is 9-11 a.m., with Kaptur, Kucinich and Veysey talking from 9:20-10:20 a.m. Kaptur and Kucinich also plan to visit strikers at U.S. Tsubaki’s facility late Saturday morning after the forum — though it's hard to nail down an exact time. You can visit either event to check out the candidates, or you can plan to attend the Register’s 9th District debate on Feb. 23. The doors open at 7 p.m. at BGSU Firelands, the debate starts at 7:30 p.m. Since we've already had such a substantial response to the debate, we're working out a way to distribute free tickets for the event to ensure we have a seat for everyone who has a ticket.   Further details on when and where tickets will be available will be announced soon.

The Mailbag is a daily feature on SanduskyRegister.com. Every weekday at noon, we will post one question-and-answer from a resident.

As a former strong supporter and campaign worker for Congressman Dennis
Kucinich I must state why I am no longer supporting him and why I am
supporting Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur.

I worked on the 1994 Kucinich State Senate campaign against Anthony Sinagra
and the 1996 Kucinich Congressional campaign against Martin Hoke.  During
those campaigns I came to know Dennis quite well.  I had just completed a
run for Cleveland City council in Slavic Village and wanted to continue in
politics.  In fact, I still hold the record for most yard signs placed
during a State Senate campaign.

What concerned me then and concerns me now is why Kucinich failed as Mayor
of Cleveland and still fails to succeed as a Congressman.  The only common
denominator is his lack of people skills.  He does not now {nor did he then}
have the critical ability to communicate properly with constituents, fellow
lawmakers and the media in general.  Some politicians are able to "re-make"
themselves.  Sadly, Kucinich has chosen not to and look what this has
resulted in for the previous 10th Congressional District.

On the other hand, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur reminds me of the type of
congressperson we desperately need during these troubling economic times.
She truly cares about her constituents.  From the moment you meet her you
can't help but be struck by her well-honed people skills.    She has
utilized these skills very effectively and look at the difference it has
made in Toledo and the surrounding area.  On Tuesday, March 6, please
support Marcy Kaptur for Congress and help give the new 9th Congressional
district a start on the right track.

The sad part of all this is that the republicans think it's a good thing when a foreign country (Japan, China) sets the wages and working conditions in the USA

See I told you so..................

Seinfeld makes me laugh, Kucinich makes me laugh; comedian or politician what is the difference. Comedian couldn’t do much worse, look around.

No we should let the UAW set wages. That way the government can own any failing corporation and the taxpayers can fund the salaries. Every company even when faultering should have job banks. Maybe the teamsters can school corporations on how to scam money for themselves and cry that there are no pension funds left. Sounds good to me.

This Veysey brings "blind ambition" if nothing else, and there is nothing else.  If I were either Kaptur or Kusinich I would ignore him.  A web search provides he graduated from Bates College, worked for President Obama's election and now is attached to some unknown tv company.  These are not credentials.  His parody of Jim Carey seems to be most appropriate.  It is bad enough that the redistricting combined and pitted Kaptur and Kusinich.  I admire both.  But to trade a seasoned Democrat at this pivotal time for a junior representative makes no sense.  That Veysey would challenge both and do harm to the Democrats in Congress I find more than annoying.

Kaptur and Kusinich have always supported union labor.  Our choice this fall will be either one of them or laughably Joe the Plummer.  If you want to make Northern Ohio the place for late night comedians a Veysey v. Joe the Plummer would do it.

Dennis and Marcy will make a big show to the unions so they will continue to use their workers dues to support the democrat party.  Thats their only purpose in this.  They would like it even better if they could force all companies to be unionized so they would forever be in office.  Hopefully America wont let this socialism, communism happen.  I feel for these workers out of work but the party who is being bribed with your forced dues isnt there to help you, they are there to keep your dollars.

I will NOT be at the chain plant.  That would be losers visiting losers.  But, a good healthy debate where I can inject some poignant questions at two liberal spending democracks in a Firelands forum will be a great venue!  I would PAY to be there to inject some dissident and discordant queries.  Life is GOOD!

 Lets see.

Do our politicans support those who made a decision to go on strike or those who have held those jobs for over a year?

They are either pro union or pro jobs for Ohio in this situation. You can't have both.  Tsubaki will move to a free labor state.

Well, what's more important?
