The summer of sizzle

Temperatures this week topped out in the mid-90s, triggering heat exhaustion in more than half a dozen area firefighters who were battling blaze in the thick of the heat wave.

Temperatures are expected to taper off a bit over the weekend, but with the end of summer still a way off, area officials are warning residents to drink plenty of fluid, stay indoors when possible — and don't leave your children or pets sitting inside cars.
