I understand people are frustrated with teens and kids in the roads. On 10/24/2010 there were 4 teans that looked right at me as i was driving down the street in our neighbourhood and continued walking till they came to the edge of the road and stoped. As i got closer and they looked right at me. Then when i was about 3 or 4 feet away or maybe less they decided to make a jump for the road. I misse one of them by just inches. If i did not swerve out of their way i would have hit her. They yelled and and cursed at me as i came to a stop. I got out and said you keep doing this and you are going to get run over, it is a matter of time. They woere so intent on calling me names and calling me a crazy ass old may and a M... F ... So they were so mad that that plan for jumping in front of the car didn't work out like they wanted. I think the one pissed her pants. Now They have filed a police report that stated I tried to hit them and I told them i was going to run over them. Now I have to go to court on a charge of Menacing.
I can just see the way courts are now. " Yes !!! Lets put the Driver in jail because he messed up these kids fun of playing chicken with his car." This will send a green light to all the kids .........They can do what ever they want and you can't touch me. It is only a matter of time before the odds catch up to them. I hope the court Judge is the one that has to go over to the parents and say your kid is in the morgue and we need you to identify her body. and Oh !!! by the way I am the one that ruled they could play their games in the roads and with cars.
I had the police out to the house and said they are at it again (playing chicken with cars) can't u do anything. NO nothing we can do. which is BS
I will feel bad for the driver that hits these kids. He or she will have to live with this forever.
I watched a kid (maybe 15 or 16 ) jump off an overpass into traffic below. i was just behind the truck that hit him. The driver was a mess. the impact threw the kids body off the freeway onto the shoulder. I stopped and ran back, as i knelt down and tried to make some sense of this the young man body was trying to hang on to life and it was horrible to watch. I felt so helpless. I know I will never forget it.
I am not sure if you can stop all the kids form seeking a thrill or looking cool in fron of thire friends but I know citing the drivers for stuff will only make more of it happen.

Starryeyes83......... No, I never had anyone jump on my car. If a kid jumps on my car to get away from a dog or other danger, thats one thing, but to jump on it for fun is not tolerable. The thing is,what do you do if a kid does? You cant very well kick his butt, if he is a minor. I am a woman, so chances are I would have to use a weapon on a teenage boy depending on his size and strength. How would that look as a headline in the S.R. ? lol

Lets try simple logic. Mr. Jackson should not have been on the road due to his license being suspended. Thus he is responsible for the child being hit .
No license = no driving = no accident.

katelih,
you're so right . These older kids practically dare you to hit them. That is, when they're not trying to jump on your car. Ever had that happen? I have. They think that busy streets/roadways are skating rinks Then they wonder why they get hit. Roads are made for cars and trucks.
As far as this little boy, he darted out. Why wasn't there a parent present who had AHOLD of his hand??

Sometimes when I am driving my car and see a group of teenage kids walking in the middle of the street almost daring me to hit them, I think to myself," I should just run them all over and save taxpayers money" . They are our FUTURE. Future ENTITLEMENTS ! If only I had the balls.

To me its annoying to drive down a street and have kids run in front of me. I even had some kids yell at me to turn around... umm really? this is a STREET not a playground.

Ever notice that these kids (most entitled offspring) look at you in the car a proceed to continue to walk and ride their bikes right in the middle of the street. It is not like you can go around them especially on downtown streets..and when they do finally move you get f bombs and stares like they want to fight...hmm wonder where they picked that up...maybe their worhtless parents who could care less how they act and what they are doing. I am not directing this post towards the kid in this story. I am mostly talking about the 13 and up crowd.

I don’t know if there is an ordnance for using the sidewalks or streets when walking. I have been driving many years and I have never had an accident. I am a good driver and because I have a child I am mindful of children. I’ve driven in the streets of Tokyo and Atsugi, Japan...I didn’t hit anyone there.

I think it is very sad when a young person is killed or injured in an automobile accident because the child is playing on the street, or was on a skateboard going down the street, paying little attention to the automobiles, I realize that sometimes it is the automobile drivers fault, probably most of the time it is the parents' fault for not being aware of where and what their children are doing.
In my driving experience which is considerable, many times I have had more than one very close call with a child being injured,
I find it very interesting when a young child is playing on the sidewalk or the street with no supervision from any adult, the parent should be held accountable and should be charged with child endangerment.
when someone injures a child, it is something that the driver will never forget, so please parents pay attention to your children, and be sure they are playing in a safe area under your supervision.

I'm sorry chic n fish, this wasn't a kid that hit him, it was a grown adult, just like last year when that grown adult woman hit and Killed that little boy on strub rd. Bottom line, kids are outside, school is in (or starting) we all need to watch for kids!

I hate to see these young teenage girls walking in the street with babies in the stroller. But they sure do look good ,with their nails done and hair did. All that equals to........ is another baby.

Children of today have no souls & could care less whether they kill or cripple another of their age. If the adults dare oncoming traffic to hit them the little ones will do the same.

Kids run into the street all the time and I am glad the boy wasn't critically injured. Just tonight, as I turned onto my street there was a group of kids in the middle of the street and one boy pushed his buddy into the path of my vehicle and LAUGHED. I was going very slow and stopped when I saw the two boys, but this is quite commonplace in my neighborhood --- kids standing in the middle of the street blocking traffic, or skateboarding down the middle of the street, or a group riding bikes and taking up the entire width of the street and usually riding INTO oncoming traffic --- and I am surprised that there aren't more kids getting hit. Anyway, glad to hear it wasn't a fatality.
