Millard H. Winklea, formerly of Sandusky, passed away peacefully on Jan. 2, 2012, in San Diego.
Affectionately known as “Wink,” he led an adventurous and productive life. He was born Dec. 16, 1917. As a boy, he was a newspaper carrier in Sandusky.
He left Sandusky to join the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Iwo Jima and Guam during WW II. After returning to the States, he settled in San Diego.
He is survived and beloved by four daughters, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all in California, sister Margaret Reiff of Sandusky and many nieces and nephews in this area.
He was preceded in death by his wife Florence (Strauch), formerly of Crestline, Ohio, sisters, Loretta Cline, Gertrude Kreimes, Eleanor Gerold, Florence Dulong, Jeanette Stout, Viola Rooks and Dorothy Mantkowski.
Military services will take place on Feb. 10, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
