So you have proof that they don't declare all their income? You keep stating that. Where are the cut and pastes of it

And besides that, why should the government be entitled to take 55% of anything? That is totally wrong no matter how you slice it!

Sarah is the hot libraian type. She is a nut job, but cute. And she can shoot an elk at a couple hundred yards

Marcy is nothing but a tax consumer, her whole entire life. She wouldn't know how to work a real "job"

If they skipped paying taxes, wouldn't that be a violation of the Tax Code?

And you are sure they didn't pay any how?

Aside from the obvious, there's one thing inarguably wrong with the so-called "death tax." It's a tax placed on funds and assets that have already been taxed. Sure, if somebody didn't pay their taxes, I'd support deducting any arrearages from the estate. But if they already paid, why are they being forced to pay again?

The "death tax" is nothing more or less than the government seeing a way it can hit some folks for double taxes. Politicians seem to look at it as "free" money rather than the theft that it is, and damages to family farms, other family businesses, and often insurmountable debts imposed on the heirs be dam*ed.

Just know from experience that is saved us a bundle when my parents died. They had an excellent financial counselor, and it "paid" off for us. Not for everyone, just worked in my case.

Thanx for the info.

If you place your assets in a revocable trust you can amend or modify it any time. On the other hand, if you place your assets in an irrevocable trust you lose the ability to amend or modify it-------but then most older people that make a trust irrevocable don't have any intention of ever changing it,  anyway.

But if you live in corrupt Erie County and become incompetent----like in the advanced stages of Alzheimers-----if you think for one minute that dirty attorneys, Prudential Life Insurance Company and Key Bank can't criminally change your irrevocable trust-----think again.

Kat, a good point but all assets cannot be placed in a trust. In addition, in some trusts such as an irrevocable trust you lose the ability to amend & modify as well as the right to continue to make key business decisions. I suppose if you did it on your deathbed when it really did not matter anymore some of the tax liability could be circumvented.

From what I have been able to determine, an offshore corporation that allows bearer corporations (one in which my name does not appear and the holders of the bearer certificates can claim ownership) is the safest investment tool out there and has served me very well. The funds are easily accesed thru a debit card tied to the account and the card has no name on it either. Any ATM works.

So far I have been able to trade stocks, buy and sell bonds etc via an online trading account registered to that corporation and located in another dollar based country. Being it's a foreign corporation based & operated from a foreign country and the money is not taxed by the US mainly becuase the US has no knowledge of its ownership (nor would they ever), this account can grow my post taxed income without further punsihment from the goverment for making sound investment decisions.

I think one of the branches did vote on extending the Bush cuts in a stand-alone bill. It was defeated, which would explain why the republicans finally agreed to meet with others. I could be wrong.

I would support letting the tax cuts expire for all. No one segment of the population should bare anymore burden BY PERCENTAGE OF TAX PAID than any other simply because they took more risk, obtained a better education and became successful.

My major sticking point in the whole mess is the ridiculous estate tax.

How can anyone with a lick of common sense defend having ANY estate tax? I work my entire life all the while being taxed at about 44% of my income (excluding income I take in Florida where there is no state tax). I Save my money wisely and invest in stocks, bonds and CD's and everything I earn from SAVING is taxed AGAIN at about 44%.

My business properties pay property taxes as long as I own them where some indiscriminate person decides what they are worth at any given time to calculate how much I should be taxed on them and they have gone up 3 of the last 5 years despite property values nationwide going DOWN!

Then when I kick the bucket, the government want my heirs to pay 35% of what I have been wise enough to save and invest!

That's a total effective tax rate of 79%!!!

People wonder why many including me move as much money OUT of the United States as possible where it cannot be touched, robbed or redistributed and will be there for my heirs when I go.

This IS a bad tax bill.  The liberal democrats are doing the EXACT same thing AGAIN.  They were given the BOOT because of spending and now here is their chance to "stick it" to the taxpayer by adding on more and more PORK while they are STILL in power.  They were kicked out for it and NONE of them have learned their lesson.  NONE!!  "Let's just SPEND more all under the premise of a tax bill.  The PEOPLE will be clueless as usual.  Who cares we PASSED the $13 TRILLION debt mark?"  Oops, NO news from the liberal press about that??  How about the AP-0bama predicting when we reach $14 TRILLION??  The liberal democracks are really PROVING how caring and wonderful they are to the people.  Can any of you wrap your minds around what a TRILLION dollars is?  How about one TRILLION = One MILLION x One Million?  And multiply that by 14???  We are BROKE!  Do ANY of your liberal freaks get that?  Incredible.

sal, the SS commission is not Liberal or conservative, Dem or Repub. They are also against this "tax holiday" of robbing SS. SS money is separate, why do you think Wall Street wants their hands on it? If it was only in place 10 years you might have an argument. But 75 years where millions have benefitted from it? C'mon, you sound like winnie now. Back in the early 70's I heard the same thing you are saying now. It's still here.

Adults tell children that Santa is a fantasy yet adults believe in the fantasies that those in government want you to believe in. For example the fantasy that the government is not broke. Or that Social Security is in good shape. What do you call a scheme where there is no actual money in the treasury of SS? The people just getting into SS are actually paying for the seniors now receiving benefits. How mant times have the SS rates increased through the years and the years for full retirement are increasing? It wont be long for SS taxes to increase again. Why didn't the seniors get that $250? Because SS is broke. The lie about SS having a surplus is a fantasy that most adults believe in. Most adults will believe anything the government tells them. Even when the government puts lipstick on a pig. To quote Obama "You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig." I have to agree with Obama on his quote.

Bad tax bill? Yes, indeed. And although I agree with Brutus (he11 has, indeed, frozen over, but then so has Sandusky today), I'm pretty sure it's for different reasons.

Still, whatever anybody thinks of the so-called tax bill, it should be voted on as a stand-alone issue. Attaching everything from unemployment extensions to the kitchen sink is just more of the same out of DC. Shame on the Democrats for continuing to do exactly the same thing that caused so many to lose their jobs November 2, and shame, shame, SHAME on the Republicans for facilitating the kind of thing they condemned during campaign season.
