Mon Ami Winery and Broadcast Music Inc. have reached a tentative settlement in a lawsuit the music company filed against the winery for copyright violations.

BMI filed the lawsuit in October after one of its researchers attended the winery one night and heard a band play 11 songs that BMI has copyrighted. The company is a performing rights business that collects fees for songwriters.

BMI alleges the Port Clinton winery never obtained a license to play the songs. In documents filed recently in U.S. District Court in Toledo, however, the two sides asked that the case be dismissed.

While the terms of the agreement will remain confidential, Mon Ami's attorney said the winery will be required to obtain the proper licensing so it can continue offering live and recorded music to guests.
