Federal regulators along with the operators of nuclear plant in Ohio are expected to give more insight into what's causing cracks found in a concrete shell surrounding the reactor.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is holding a public meeting 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday night where it will also go into the reasons why it allowed the plant near Toledo to reopen.

The Davis-Besse nuclear plant began producing electricity again in early December, less than two months after the first cracks were found.

Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich  has been critical of that decision and says regulators need to find out whether the cracks are a sign of bigger problems.

Plant operator FirstEnergy Corp. of Akron says the cracks don't pose a threat.

@ Kimo; "Waste" and the forty year shelf life expectancy of Davis Besse that has already went past. We (they) are playing with fire (no pun intended) by keeping that old edifice patched up. The only thing keeping them from closing down that old girl and building another is, as always, the folks who are trying to squeez the last bloody (again..no pun intended) nickle of profit from their investment. (They have to pay Uncle Sam some more hush money frst though.) Cynical? "No" Realistic? "Yes", Teed off?

"You are dammm straight!"

It's one more thing we have to contend with that we shouldn't have to as working class Americans. That is the possibilty of paying more for the opportunity to be blasted like Chernoble (sp?). (If you study up on it just a little...Davis-Besse "IS" in trouble.)

Wouldn't it be a quaint experience if someone "did the right thing" for a change????

Feel good dog and pony show.

It's full steam ahead.

But................

Give them more time to figure out a way to stick the taxpayers with "the waste problem".

A solution has been "just around the corner" for forty years, (it's a damn big corner).
