Erie County leaders have managed to trim millions of dollars from the 2012 budget without laying off employees or reducing services.

The county's 150 departments will each absorb a 4 percent cut in funding over the next 12 months, ultimately saving the county $4 million by year's end, county commissioner Pat Shenigo and finance director Pete Daniel said.

Department heads have spent the last four years learning to operate with less money, and the county as a whole has reduced expenses in countless programs.

"We continued to manage expenses throughout last year," Shenigo said. "In these economic times, we have to every day constantly watch every dollar."

Want to learn how Shenigo, Daniel and commissioner Bill Monaghan helped set the stage for savings? Read more in Tuesday's Register.

Numb nutz Pat talked about the NASA airstrip AGAIN this morning. WHO is going to be the first politician to tell the truth publicly about Pat's plan? Stick a fork in it, it's DONE! Not gonna happen. Move on!

hey 8 ball what was said thats conspiracy theory? we stated that people are mowing and plowing the county properties. which they are. and fireside put that kreimes paved the parking lot which they did. im sure if you do your homework you will find shenigo has his right hand man over seeing alot of county projects and pays him as a consultant on countys dime.  also he's big on this erie county airport project because he has family ties to property in airport area that would surely raise property value for him. dont just drink the kool aid look into its ingredients.

Hey TAXPAYER do you proof read the tripe you write?  You sound like a third grader and write like one too!  I love all you people with your conspirancy theories....not!  Without Shenigo amd Monaghan you'd still be stuck with only Tax and spend Ferrel who, thankfully,is a non issue.  Keep it going Pat and Bill!

Aren't Monaghan, Shenigo and Ferrell all Democrats? Can't they get along? Do they ever agree?

What's up in Erie County?

Cuts at the top are always great in any business/government area.   We the people have given much already.

Funny.....I remember reading in this paper, either Shenigo or Monahan said "we will not be able to fix our parking lot". Low and behold....a few months later their buddy Krimes & Co were out there fixing the main lot. Shades of Demora!

Ok, I want them to teach me how to save money without cutting anything really big.  I can't do that with OUR budget, so how are they doing it?

It just seems impossible to me to save money without reducing staffing somewhere, and without reorganizing departments.  What is getting cut?  Are they going to cut hours?  Are they going to use less paper, red ink?

Seriously, I would like to know the secret because a NORMAL budget can't do it without big concessions, so how can they?

How do you cut 4 million from the budget without laying anyone off?  The county nursing home is always running in the red.  What are these commissioners smoking anway?  The commissioners find ways to regionalize and let other cities pick up most of  the tab for their services.

Let's review.  Erie County residents are now strapped in the liberal democrack bondage of DEBT by county commissioners to the tune of $114 MILLION.  I guess they are exempt like the president to balance any budget.  Oops, the president even has a TAXCHEAT as the secretary of the U.S. Treasury.  So WHY balance anything right losers?  This does NOT include all the school district and operating levies for the teacher's UNION and public service UNIONS.  In fact, there is ONE county commissioner who CLAIMS to have brought $106 MILLION in assets at the feet of voters.  I am still trying to find any of those monuments of success by this county commissioner who wants another term after serving NINE THOUSAND days in office.  So, they want to make all of you "FEEL GOOD" because they are cutting a trifling and despicable, measly $4 MILLION??  Ooo, that really should make you liberal democracks "FEEL GOOD" about the future for your children.  I would not fault my kids for moving out of here to a more promising state (right to work) of opportunity.  In fact, when they are out of college, I will be right behind them.  I have investment property in several states I will maneuver.  Then all you loser, members of the liberal Erie County democrack party and UNIONS can stay and wait for all this DEBT.  YOU can dance in the streets in liberal bliss to PAY for it.  Because I promise, it will NOT be me.  Ha! Ha!  Vote them in for all the terms they want.  Vote for more school levies.  Please approve a $100 MILLION school levy for Perkins!  "It is for the children, the poor little children."  I will vote for more DEBT, more money for more FAILURE and spending more for UNIONS!  Then I will bestow this encumbrance of liberal, democrack liability to YOU!  Just like when I moved out of the pestilence of a once great city called Sandusky.  FOUR MORE YEARS!  Ha! Ha!

The County has 4 million less, so they cut out 4 million worth of projects off the the 2012 list. I want more on the Huron County solid waste being dumped in Erie County's landfill at a reduced fee!

Again and again, over the last two years Commissioner Shenigo and Monaghan have decided this or completed that. What happened to our other commissioner? Has he been AWOL ?
