A chic boutique specializing in costume jewelry and accessories is a big hit after opening two months ago in the Sandusky Mall.

Charming Charlie, a chain retailer based out of Houston, Texas, opened Nov. 1 where the Eastern Buffet once served up its dishes.

Lydia Paredes, general manager, said word of mouth is bringing people into Charming Charlie.

In less than two months the store is tracking more people walking into the Sandusky store than most other Charming Charlies in the geographic district.

“We did very well at Christmas, which is saying a lot,” Paredes said. “I think it is only getting better.”
Charming Charlie carries jewelry, purses, and other accessories for all age groups.

That was evident as Tammy Henry, of Sandusky, was shopping with her granddaughter, Jayde Keener.

“I like it,” said Keener, referring to the store as she put a feather into her hair.
Henry said she loves being able to shop alongside her granddaughter. Soon Henry was trying on a pair of high-heeled boots.

The first time Henry was in the store she was overwhelmed.

“There was so much to see,” she said.

She spent an hour in the store then.

Henry said the fact that everything is arranged by color helps keep the search manageable. The shop is 12,000 square feet of colorful bracelets, necklaces, purses and even scarves.

Paredes said Charlie Chanaratsopon, CEO and founder of Charming Charlie, set up the color-coded system for the ease of customers. While working as a cashier in his first store, Chanaratsopon repeatedly had customers approach him and ask for accessories in specific colors.

And there are a lot of accessories to catch the eye — 50,000 in fact. And everything in Charming Charlie is less than $50.

The Sally C line has more of a vintage feel while Charlie Girl is geared toward 12 and younger. The Sandusky store is one of the few to have what is called the RSVP section.

But you do not need a reservation to look over the glitzy, everything rhinestone and pearls section. The name refers to the exclusive events to which one would wear the jewelry; from parties to proms and homecomings.

There is also a table devoted exclusively to what is trending hot in accessories.

That is anything dazzling gold.

Let me tell you what this store did you my daughter when they were first setting up......The manager called and asked my daughter would she be willing to work 1 week to just set the store up and my daughter said no she was looking for full-time PERMENANT employment...a few days later another woman called stating she was the district manager and wanted to know if my daughter wanted to work at the store my daughter informed her of what the manager had offered her and this woman told my daughter that no it was indeed a permanant position so my daughter took the job...this woman also told the same story to about 15 other women and guess what?? When the store was all set up and ready to open all the women that the district manager told they had permanant jobs were let go and told sorry including my daughter...I will NEVER shop at a store that is THAT DISHONEST to people...............

I love, love, love this store. The first time I walked in there I couldn't get enough -- I may have even salivated a bit :) . Such a great addition to the mall.
