Dewey J. Schippel, 80, of Sandusky, and formerly of Michigan, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 19, 2006, after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 22, 1926, in Sandusky and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army. He was employed as a truck driver for the W.L. Mead Co. of Norwalk. He enjoyed cooking and baking.
Mr. Schippel is survived by a daughter, Sandra M. (Tony) Corte of Berlin Heights; a son, Duane E. (Susan) Schippel of Monroeville; two brothers, Robert E. and Paul C. Schippel, both of Sandusky; a sister, Pauline Durdel of Elmore, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen (Berg) Schippel, whom he married Aug. 28, 1948; and his parents, Dewey E. Sr. and Marie C. (Carney) Schippel.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday, with Pastor John Mawhirter, of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Republic Township Cemetery in Michigan.
