Margaret Lay Kaufman, 92, of Sarasota, Fla. died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, in Sarasota.
She was born Sept. 2, 1914, the daughter of Charles E. and Pearl Putnam Lay. She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1932 and attended Ohio Wesleyan University.
She and her husband, Max, and two children, Max and Margie, moved to Punta Gorda, Fla. in 1955. They owned and operated River Haven Cottages and Alligator Bar in Punta Gorda.
After her husband died in 1963, she and her children moved to Sarasota in 1967.
She is survived by her son, Max V. (Alise E. Angel) Kaufman of Sarasota; sister, Jane Lay Mitchel of Sandusky; long time care-giver and friend, Ruth Pitt; and close friend, Donna Miley, both of Sarasota.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Margie, in 1978.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Charlotte Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda, Fla. Funeral procession will depart at 12:30 p.m. from Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota.
