Theodore J. "Ted" Young, 72, of Sandusky, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16, 2006, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, after a brief illness.
He was born in 1934 in Sandusky. He was a graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School and received his bachelor's of science in education from John Carroll University. Ted earned his master's degree in education and administration from Bowling Green State University. After 30 years of teaching in the district, he retired from Margaretta Local Schools.
Ted was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He coached various youth teams in baseball and basketball. He loved the outdoors, especially enjoying riding his bicycle and taking long walks on the beach while wintering in Largo, Fla., for many years. He also had the knack of being able to fix almost anything and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Sally, whom he married June 26, 1954; and his 10 children, Andrea Young, Michael Young, Kathy DiVita, Patricia Popke, Theodore N. Young, Mary Lou DiPolito, Debbie Perkins, Jim Young, Diane Dilley and Crissy Young; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Millie Martin; four brothers, Ray, Norman, Thomas and Jim Young; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Mary (Fox) Young; an infant son, Paul; and a brother, Al Young.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Marys Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
