Robert "Bob" Korns, 76, of Sandusky, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center following a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Dover, Ohio, son of the late Frances E. (Manley) and James L. Korns. Bob was a 1951 graduate of Dover High School and then received a B.A. degree in accounting from Fenn College.
Bob was an accountant, retiring in 1999 from NASA Plum Brook after 35 years of service. Following his retirement he taught accounting at Ohio Business College.
Bob was a member of Sandusky Kiwanis, VFW Post 2529, AMVETS Post17, American Legion Post 83, Eagles Aerie 444, and Moose Lodge 1286. He enjoyed bowling, bingo, golfing, dancing and singing. Bob was a well-known karaoke duet singer known as "BBs". He and his wife always looked forward to their trips to Las Vegas.
Bob is survived by his wife of 10 years, Donna (Miller) Korns; daughters, Cindy (Matt) Fetter of Amburn, Ind., and Connie (Pat) Welsh and Wendy (Steve) Brooks of Columbus ; son, Neal Korns of Sandusky; stepson: Craig Voltz of Milan; eight grandchildren; one stepgrandson; brother, J. Lynn (Karen) Korns of Rome, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris Hostetler.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Gary Ulrich will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, at a later date.
Bob's family requests memorial contributions be made to Cancer Services of Erie County or a charity of the donor's choice.
