Eugene R. Forster, 83, of Willard, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, in the home of his daughter, Patricia (James) Butler in Toledo, Ohio, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 10, 1923, in Willard and graduated from North Fairfield High School in 1941. He served in the Navy during World War II, on the USS St. George, in the Pacific. After the war he worked at the Pontiac/Buick dealership in Willard as an auto mechanic until 1974 when he became an instructor at Pioneer Career Center in Shelby, Ohio. He retired in 1985. He was a life-long member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Willard and he belonged to the Willard Knights of Columbus and the VFW Norwalk Post 2743. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, camping, watching sports and wintering in Florida for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha (Wechter), whom he married in 1947; five daughters, Jean Forster of St. Paul, Minn., Donna (Kenneth) Hay of Willard, Patricia (James) Butler of Toledo, Mary (William) Roberts of Groton, N.Y. and Marjorie (Thomas) Cox of Manchester, Conn.; three sons, Thomas (Linda) of Bloomfield, N.Y., Kenneth of Cornelius, N.C. and Charles (Joan Jacobs) of Yakima, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Kathryn) of North Auburn, Ohio and The Rev. Francis Forster, O.S.B. of Belmont Abbey, N.C.; and one sister, Mary Ann Forster of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip F. and Frances A. (Leitz); a brother, Bernard (Ann); and a sister, Agnes Forster.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Secor Funeral Home, Willard, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 25 W. Perry St., Willard, with The Rev. Stanley S. Szybka officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Willard.
