Willie H. Burns, 87, 5803 Billings Road, Castalia, died Wednesday afternoon. Dec. 6, 2006, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 16, 1919, in Jefferson County, Ala. and was a 30 year employee of New Departure, retiring in 1979. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 83 and was an avid hunter, loved his sawmill and was five-time Ohio State Archery Champion.
Willie is survived by his wife, Betty, to whom he was married for 58 years; one daughter, Rebecca Tuttle of Castalia; one son, Larry Burns of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Katlin, Andrea, Sarah, Nicole and Jahnava; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mylea, Caleb and Gavin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Wilma (Brewer) Burns and six brothers.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday in Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
