Frederick C. Carr, 91, formerly of Fredonia, Bear Lake, and the Frewsburg Rest Home, all in New York, died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, in Lutheran Social Services.
He was born Sept. 24, 1915, in Franklinville, N.Y., the son of Jay and Alice Steele Carr, now deceased. Fred was a graduate of Hinsdale High School and served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Alleghany State Park. He was employed by Davey Tree Company of Kent, Ohio, for 35 years as a tree doctor, retiring in 1980. After his retirement he volunteered at the Chautauqua Agriculture Center as a tree specialist. He was a former member of Westfield Moose Lodge, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and served on the Town of Pomfret zoning board.
Surviving are three sons, Paul (Marvene) Carr of Port Clinton, H. Jay (Sara) Carr of Grand Rapids, Mich., and James ((Marlene) Carr of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Karen (Joseph) Henry of Jamestown; six grandchildren, Paul Carr of Columbus, Cathy Carr of Sandusky, Eric Carr of Syracuse, N.Y., Lisa Warwick of Raleigh, N.C., Chris Carr of Grand Rapids and Adrianne Carr of Berkley, Calif.; two stepgrandchildren, Melinda Henry of Barnegat, N.J., and Tammy Nieder of Houston, Texas; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lester Kenfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen C. Carlson Carr, whom he married July 3, 1939 and who died June 28, 1993; a brother, Wayne Carr; and a sister, Katherine Galeak.
Friends will be received by the family from noon until funeral services at 1 p.m. today in Falconer Funeral Home in New York. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain of Lutheran Social Services, will officiate. Burial will be in the Stockton Greenwood Cemetery.
