Velda M. Fleming, 90, of Sandusky, passed away late Tuesday morning, Dec. 5, 2006, in Erie County Care Facility, Huron, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 5, 1916 in Huron and was a 1933 graduate of Huron High School and a graduate of the Good Samaritan Hospital Nursing School. She went on to do postgraduate work in pediatrics at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill. She was a registered nurse from 1936 until she retired in 1981. She worked at Memorial Hospital in Norwalk during World War II and then at Good Samaritan Hospital in Sandusky for 35 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and formerly a member of the Nurses Association which she had been the secretary for 50 years.
She is survived by her brother, Jack E. Fleming of Sandusky and nephew, Michael Fleming of Tampa, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruby (Cherry) Fleming and two brothers, Herbert C. and Robert L. Fleming.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. today in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave, Sandusky, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday. Pastor Dan Miller of First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in McMillen Cemetery, Huron.
