A.L. Roy "Poppaw" Hess, 85, of Clyde, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, in Stein Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Etman, W.Va., to the Elbert and Pearl (Cane) Hess, now deceased. He moved to the Clyde area in 1950. He was a member of Church of God in Clyde and Clyde VFW. He retired in 1983 from Whirlpool Corp. He was a WW II Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle (Stuart) Hess, whom he married April 7, 1950; two daughters, Sheila (Larry) Santiago of Norwalk and Sherry (Jim) Kapucinski of Amherst, Ohio; five grandchildren, Alesha Cousino, Miranda Zurcher, Rob Ford, Amy Santiago-Dubsky and Dan Reese; six great-grandchildren; a brother, James Hess of Galaz, Va.; and two sisters, Marie Richardson of Mount Airy, N.C., and Lorene Hutchins of Martinsville, Va.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Morgan Hess; and five sisters, Edith Utt, Melba Lawson, June Berze and Gladys and Eilene Hess.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde, where funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Gene Paul officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
