Ruth Orra Egan, 99, of Bellevue passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010, in her home.
She was born Feb. 5, 1911, in Bellevue, and was the daughter of James and Cora Owen Egan. Miss Egan graduated from Bellevue High School in 1929 and from Oberlin School of Commerce in 1930. She was employed for 46 years as chief draftsperson by the former Northern Ohio Telephone Company, later the GTE Company from which she retired in 1976.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and a 70-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Althea Chapter, a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America, the lone remaining charter member of Bellevue Business and Professional Women's Club, and a member of the Four County Young at Heart where she participated in the Wednesday Afternoon Art Club.
She is survived by two nieces, Laverne Moore of Bellevue and Lenore H. Brown of New Albany, Ohio; sister-in-law, Althea M. Egan of Bellevue; and numerous grand and great-grandnieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Mae S. Fehl and Hazel K. Egan; two brothers, Charles J. Egan and Clifford O. Egan; and niece, Kathleen M. Thill.
Friends may call from noon Monday until the 1 p.m. service in St. Paul's First United Church of Christ, 428 Kilbourne Street, Bellevue, officiated by the Rev. Houston Hall. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery.
