Esther M. "Dadoo" Pfeil, 101, of Castalia died Tuesday afternoon, May 4, 2010, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 22, 1908, in Castalia where she was a life long resident. She was a 1926 graduate of Margaretta High School. Esther was employed as the bookkeeper at the former Elmer Borchardt, Inc. for more than 30 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia, where she was a member of the ladies circle #2. She also served for 35 years on the board of Cancer Services of Erie County, which she helped in naming, volunteered with the Erie County Election Board, and was an honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi, Castalia.
She is survived by her sister, Kathryn A. Friedley of Sandusky; two nieces, Mary Ann (Pete) Luse of Tiffin and Karen (Russ) Tabak of Lorain; niece-in-law, Carol J. Pfeil of Castalia; great-nephew, Donald A. (Iva) Pfeil of Sandusky; six great-nieces, including Rhonda (Mike) Rice of Castalia; cousin, Francis (Grace) Kish of Talmadge; and great-great-nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine (Meinzer) Pfeil; brother, Harold Pfeil; brother-in-law, Dale Friedley; and nephew, Rodger Pfeil.
Friends may call from noon Friday until funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington St., Castalia; the Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
