Yvonne M. (DeVos) Ferdinandsen, 98, of Sandusky passed away peacefully early Monday morning, April 26, 2010, surrounded by her loving husband Frederick and her loving family.
Yvonne was born March 8, 1912, in Tielt, Belgium, to Baziel and Bertha (Van BresBrook) DeVos. She owned and operated The Belgium American Bakery in Detroit for many years with her husband Julien Houtekier. She loved America and her many homes that she shared with her family and friends.
She married Frederick O. Ferdinandsen on March 24, 1998, and enjoyed her remaining years with his and her families.
She is survived by two loving daughters, Lillian (William) Dean and Nancy (Nelson) Alward; four grandchildren, Nancy Lynn Dean (deceased), Kimberly (Michael) Joyce, Keith (Missy) Alward, Julie (Dale) Greco; five great grandchildren, Alexander and Blaine Alward, Kathleen Joyce, Bryan and Ali Greco; and many nieces and nephews in both the U.S.A. and Belgium.
Preceding Yvonne in death was her husband, Julien Houtekier; sister, Mary DeFauw; granddaughter, Nancy Lynn Dean; grandson, Keith Nelson Alward (suddenly deceased).
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until funeral services at 10 a.m. at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Pastor Wally Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sandusky.
