Arlene E. Mettert, 83, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, May 3, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born April 16, 1927, to Anna Florence (Sedwick) and Dow Dewey White in Athens County, Ohio. She was employed for 20 years by the Erie County Board of Elections, retiring in 1989.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ. She was a life member of AMVETS Post 17 Auxiliary and was a member of VFW Post 2529 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 83 and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Arlene enjoyed watching her game shows, knitting, crocheting and doing crafts, but most of all enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Paul Mettert; her children, Ron (Alice) Mettert of Kellys Island, Kathy (Steve) Schenk and Jeff (Ellen) Mettert of Sandusky; daughter-in-law, Lucinda Mettert of Vermilion; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Carrie (Mrs. Don) White of Clyde and several other relatives.
She was preceded in death by a son, Randall C. Mettert in December 1992; her parents; her brothers, Don S. White in December 2009 and Dennis in 1951 in infancy; and a grandson, Brian in 1973.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where an AMVETS Auxiliary service will be at 8 p.m.
