Laura Mae (Harris) Alexander, 87, of Sandusky, passed through this earthly plane Friday morning, April 30, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Laura was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Bullock County, Ala., to Henderson Harris and Annie F. (Tarver) Harris. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church where she served as a dedicated member of the Usher Board for many years.
She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother to her son and grandchildren, as well as a good friend to the people she would encounter. Laura, more affectionately called "Gramma", loved going fishing, cookouts with her family, watching Pastor Scottie Aaron on Saturday evenings, and especially loved watching and listening to President Obama on television. Gramma always thought that a good meal would cure it all. She cooked any and everything until her vision started failing and she couldn't do it anymore.
Laura is survived by her son, L.Z. (Judy) Pearson of Sandusky; daughter, Earnestine (Herb) Russell of New Haven, Conn.; sister, Mary Churchwell of Sandusky; loyal friend, Creasie Spearman; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Alexander in 2008; son, Douglas MacArthur Pearson, in 2003; daughter, Annie Pearson, in 1986; her parents; grandson, Derrick L. Pearson, in 2005; great-grandson, Darian L. Pearson, in 2001; and great-great-granddaughter, La'Queria J. Pearson, in 2004.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. Thursday until funeral services at 1 p.m. in Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 224 Dixie Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Samuel Mickels will officiate. Entombment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
