Robert F. Hillman, 82, of Port Clinton passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Plain City, Ohio, the son of Carlton and Ada Belle (Sherwood) Hillman. On Oct. 6, 1983, in Ormand Beach, Fla., he married Virginia "Ginny" Purcell; she survives. Robert worked as a maintenance foreman for New Departure in Sandusky until his retirement. He was a pilot and flew for 35 years and was a member of Tin Goose Chapter 1247. Robert loved collecting cars. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Port Clinton. Robert was a member of Moose Lodge 1610, Port Clinton, and Eagles Aerie 490. He was the No. 1 fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Browns. Robert loved the water and Lake Erie. He loved spending time on Middle Bass Island. Robert will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia "Ginny" Hillman of Port Clinton; daughters, Vicki (Marc) McClain of Marblehead, Debbie (John) Swartz of Bellevue, Kathy (Mike) Schneider of Marblehead and Barb (Mike) Linder of Naples, Fla.; son, Thomas E. Hillman of Bellevue; daughter-in-law, Kathy Hillman of Bellevue; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ellen Kopendofer of Sommerset, Ky., and Jean Fitz of Castalia; and brother, Tom Baldwin of Marysville, Ohio.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Hillman; and sisters, Jane Perry and Doris Kaelin.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday in Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home by Pastor Bruce Batchelor-Glader. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery, Port Clinton.
