Lance Edward Hughes Lee, 71, of Sandusky, departed this life on Sunday, April 18, 2010, in Concord Care & Rehabilitation Center, under the care of Stein Hospice.
He was born Aug. 6, 1938, in Chicago, to Lewis Edward Hughes and Gwendolyn Lee Hughes Banks. Lance graduated from Evanston Township High School, Evanston, Ill., with honors in art, and was a member of the Evanston Drill Team for many years. He attended Ebenezer Baptist Church, Evanston, as a young man.
He was a diligent worker in Illinois where he met and married his first wife, Karen May, and together they had four children.
Later he married his loving wife of 41 years, Carol Lee. Together they moved to Sandusky where he worked for Ford Motor Co., retiring after 32 years.
Lance is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Nunez) Lee; his children, Kimberly Hughes Arrington, Lance Hughes, Stephanie Hughes Davis and Troy Hughes; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Julienne Watt and Paulette Hereford; brother, Dorian Banks; four nieces; eight nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Raymond Hughes.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1920 Shelby St., Sandusky. The Rev. C.J. Johnson Jr. will officiate. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is in charge of arrangements.
