June Limbird, 87, of Toledo passed away March 25, 2010; she lived at Swan Creek Retirement Village since the fall of 1993.
She was born June 1, 1922, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Leonard and Alma Mellinger. She graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1940 and received a B.S. degree from The Ohio State University in March, 1944. A year later she received her certificate in hospital dietetics from St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 1945, she married James H. Limbird, who preceded her in death in Aug. 2009. They had four children, Thomas (Lee) Limbird of Nashville, Diane (Ronald) Hamburger of Hinsdale, Ill., Rebecca (Stephen) Rohre of Toledo and Robert (Lou Ann) Limbird of Napoleon, Ohio. There are seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her brother, Dr. Raymond Mellinger of East Lansing, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Richard Limbird and Phil Anderson; and sisters-in-law, Patricia LImbird and Jo Huber.
June's sister, Phoebe Anderson, is deceased.
June was a member of Glendale Presbyterian Church, professional organizations Phi Upsilon and Omicron Nu, and past member of AAUW and Church Women United.
June was employed as a dietician at Mt. Carmel Hospital, Columbus, in 1945. Later she became certified to teach elementary school and taught for 23 years at various schools in Ohio. She retired in 1982.
Please note that the memorial service at Swan Creek Retirement Village on Saturday is now scheduled at 2 p.m. with a light luncheon to follow. A private family service will take place in Milan Cemetery in Milan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Swan Creek Life Care Fund or Heifer Project International.
