Leslie C. "Spare" Hallock, 87, of Sandusky passed away late Thursday evening, April 15, 2010, at Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 13, 1922, on the Isle of St. George, N. Bass Island, Ohio, the son of Clark G. and Elizabeth (Sandersen) Hallock, Les was a 1940 graduate of Sandusky High School and was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1978 from ATHOL (Chrysler Plastics) where he worked for almost 20 years; prior to that, he worked for Stephens Printing Company for 20 years. He played dartball for Jimmy's Bar for several years.
He was a member of American Legion Post 83, life member of AMVETS Post 17 and life member of VFW Post 2529.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty M. (Fritz) Hallock, whom he married July 23, 1949; his family, Mike "Buck" (Diane) Hallock of Sandusky, Kathy (Steve) Nestor of Huron, Beth (Mike) Sandwisch of Port Clinton, James (Michelle) Hallock of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Tim (Michelle A.) Hallock of Norwalk and Dan (Jennifer) Hallock of Sandusky; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Petrick of Sandusky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Weldon, Donald and Marvin Hallock.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky; the Rev. Marty Nassr will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 83. At his request, cremation will take place following the services. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
