Dennis Crowder, 86, of Columbus and formerly Huron, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, in The Laurels of Worthington.
Born in Toms Creek, Va., "DC" spent four years in the U.S. Navy, and then joined the U.S. Air Force from which he retired in 1964. He spent several years with Lear Siegler in Alaska and loved to regale his family and friends with stories of his life there. He moved to Huron in 1967 and married his childhood sweetheart, Frances (Edwards). Dennis retired from Huron Lime Company in 1995 and developed a new passion for golf while he spent 13 years working at Thunderbird Hills Golf Club. He was a member of the Masonic Order where he obtained the 32nd degree. He was also a member of the Shriners, VFW, BPOE, Eagles and Moose.
DC is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Jeannine Edwards of Columbus, Rhex Edwards of Michigan, Jim Crowder of St. Louis and Susan Grieves and Robert Crowder, both of Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife, Arrabelle Crowder of Oklahoma; and beloved friend, "Dad" Mac McCoy of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pearl (Mabe) Crowder; sister, June McConnell; and brother, Charles Crowder.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Friday until the memorial service at 11 a.m. in Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron. Pastor Todd Nielsen of The Chapel will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Healthcare of Columbus, 540 Officecenter Place, Gahanna, OH 43230 (an affiliate of Hospice) or the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children and Burn Institutes.
