Robert J. "Papa" Head Sr., 55, of Fremont passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, in The Toledo Hospital.
He was born Nov. 18, 1954, in Zanesville, Ohio, to John and Donna J. (Gill) Randolph. He was a 1972 graduate of Port Clinton High School. Robert served in the U.S. Army from June 22, 1972 to Nov. 17, 1975, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Marksman (Rifle) Badge. Robert married Joyce Hillis, Oct. 20, 2000, in Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont; she survives. He was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Fremont for 17 years and retired in 2004. Robert enjoyed woodworking, wildlife and the outdoors. He loved sports and his faithful puppy, Astral.
Robert is survived by his wife, Joyce Head of Fremont; sons, Robert Head Jr. of Sandusky and James (Johnette) Head of Port Clinton; stepchildren, Jon Robinson of Diamond, Ohio, Megan (Jason) Baclawski of Ravenna, Ohio, and Marsha (Isaiah) Willett of Diamond; nine grandchildren; parents, John and Donna Randolph of Port Clinton; and sisters, Renee (Aaron) Nye of Oak Harbor and Paula (Chuck) Dobrowolski of Marblehead.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Ruth Gill.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont. Service is 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Paul Gruetter officiating. Burial will take place in McGormley Cemetery, Fremont, with military honors provided by the American Legion and VFW.
