Jack D. Schaeffer, 69, of Castalia, died Friday morning, April 9, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, following a brief illness.
He was born May 19, 1940, in Detroit, and graduated from Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, with an engineering degree and then worked for Kelsey Hayes Co., Fremont. He was a U.S. Marine Corps officer during Vietnam, and he was awarded three Bronze Stars for his efforts during the war.
He is survived by his wife, Janet (Brinker) Schaeffer; two daughters, Corinne Schaeffer of Albinon, Pa., and Jennifer (Stephen) Crawford of Phoenix; son, Chris (Sharon) Schaeffer of Castalia; two grandchildren, Johnathan and Lindsay; two sisters, Joan Naylor of Denton, Texas, and Christine Schaeffer of Fostoria, Mich.; brother, Neil Schaeffer of Dallas; and half sister, Carol Belliner of Farmington Hills, Mich.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eleanor (Kimmel) Schaeffer; and his brother, Larry Schaeffer.
Private family services will be Monday at Sand Hill Cemetery. Pastor John Paputza will officiate.
