Ruth H. VanCauwenbergh, 82, of Castalia died Friday afternoon, April 2, 2010, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
She was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Sandusky and graduated from Margaretta High School in 1946. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sandusky, UAW Local 913, American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She retired from New Departure. Ruth enjoyed crocheting and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren work and ride their horses.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Herman) Hillenbrand and Brenda (Rod) Frische, both of Castalia; son, Dean (Kathy) VanCauwenbergh of Troy; seven grandchildren, Heidi (John Ensley) Hillenbrand, Hayley (Billy) Alten, Corey (Deborah) Frische, Kyle Frische, Lesley (Randy) Bretz, Vikki (Tim) Jordan and Christy (Nicholas) Newland; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Gaston VanCauwenbergh; parents, Clarence and Frieda (Sprau) Vettel; two sisters and one brother in infancy; and two brothers, Paul and Robert Vettel.
Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Monday in Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. David Nuss will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
