Ramon "Ray" Earl White, 81, of Sandusky died peacefully Tuesday evening, March 30, 2010, in Stein Hospice following a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Sandusky to Amos Gerald and Vera (Roesch). He was a 1946 graduate of Sandusky High School.

A World War II and Korean War veteran, he spent six years in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1954. Ray was a local banker, working at Third National Bank and Erie County Bank; he retired from Citizens Banking Co. in 1994. Ray was also a small business owner, Realtor and worked as a director of golf for Sawmill Creek Resort.

He was a member of Sandusky Jaycees and was active in the Jaycees Youth Golf Programs. Ray was Youth Baseball Coach for VFW Atom League and Perkins Little League, a past member of the Sandusky Rotary Club, and a former Perkins Township Clerk of Courts. He was also an avid golfer, starting as a caddy at Plum Brook Country Club in the early 1940s.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou (Monaghan); sons, Christopher (Carol) White of Sandusky and Scott (Amy) White of Saline, Mich.; daughter, Suzanne (David) Stuck of Sandusky; six grandchildren, Kelsey White of Bluffton College, Brittany White of The Ohio State University, John White of Saline, Grant White of Sandusky, and Andrew White and Emily White of Saline; sisters, Geraldine (Rodney) Wyse of Cedarville, Ohio, and Barbara White of Granville, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Ruth White of Kent, Ohio, and Sue White of Oak Harbor; brothers-in-law, Tom (Evelyn) Monaghan of Michigan and Bill (Judy) Monaghan of Sandusky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brothers, Donald and Robert.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The Rev. Mel Salyers, Stein Hospice, will officiate.
