Mary H. Mertz, 107, of Sandusky died Saturday evening, March 27, 2010, in Parkvue Health Care Center.
She was born June 12, 1902, in Danbury and moved to Sandusky at the age of 11. She resided at 414 42nd St. until she entered the Community of Parkvue at the age of 100. Mary worked in admitting at the former Good Samaritan Hospital, was a receptionist for Dr. Dean Sheldon and retired as a clerk from Erie County Probate Court.
She was a member of the Sandusky Sunshine Society. Mary was an avid reader and often read three to four books per week. She loved watching the many birds feeding outside her window.
She is survived by one son, David Mertz of Chicago, and other relatives and friends.
Her husband, Henry Mertz, and her parents, Michael and Alta (Hartshorn) Hettrick preceded her in death.
At the request of the deceased, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Erie County MetroParks, designated to the Mike and Betty Stockdale Arboretum, or to the donor's favorite charity.
