George W. Reilly, 82, of Sandusky passed away Friday, March 26, 2010, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
He was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Norwalk. He resided in Sandusky, where he was a firefighter for 33 years and worked for Polar Pure 22 years.
George was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Firefighters' Local 327, and Sandusky posts of VFW, Eagles and AMVETS, and was a life member of American Legion. He was an avid walker and former roller-skater who loved music, children, dancing and dogs. His joy for life was contagious, and all who knew George became his friend.
Cherishing his memory are three daughters, Vickie L. Riley, Nancy J. Reilly-Neiding, and Beckie A. Reilly, all of Sandusky; two sons, Michael (Barb) Reilly of Petersburg, Mich., and Fred (Hazel) Reilly of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; five grandchildren, Geoffrey Stuck, Melissa Neiding, Jason Neiding, Christina Reilly and Catherine "Kate" Reilly; beloved great-grandsons, Austen Neiding, Caleb Wilson and Malaki Reilly; his brother, Robert Rhineberger of Clyde; step-daughter, Lollie Paul of Sandusky; stepgrandson, Shawn (Auna) Stark; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Tabitha, Brandon, Justin and Logan Stark; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He will be welcomed in heaven by his wives, Leona (Koepele) Reilly and Edie (Wilburn Johnston) Reilly. George was predeceased by parents, William Reilly and Florence Griffin Reilly Stahl, and by three sisters, Elizabeth White, Ileta Pittenger, and Rosaline Whitney.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayer services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday followed by a 10:30 a.m. mass of Christian burial in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Chris Kardzis will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
