Mayotta "Pat" Highlander, 74, formerly of rural Castalia, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, March 28, 2010, following a lengthy illness.
Pat was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Beauty Mountain, W.Va., daughter of the late Carl and Vada (Jones) Young. She moved to this area in 1951.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, Bellevue, had been a Sunday school teacher there, and enjoyed singing in the gospel quartet and being a part of her church family.
Pat worked for many years as an election worker in Groton Township .
She married C. Dale Highlander Nov. 4, 1951, and he preceded her in death Feb. 20, 2004.
Survivors include their children, Chuck (Emma) Highlander of Castalia, Dennis (Janet) Highlander of Bellevue, Vicky (Allen) Morris of Sandusky, Pam (Criss) Sparks of Norwalk and Cindy (Steve) Wittenburg of Jackson, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dottie Weeks of West Virginia; two brothers, Bob Young and John Carl Young of Lancaster, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by two young sisters, Jeannie and Cynthia Young.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church, Gardner Road, Bellevue. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery.
