Richard V. "Dick" Finnen, 78, of Norwalk passed away Monday afternoon, March 22, 2010, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 7, 1931, in New Lexington, Ohio, son of the late Vince and Lillian (Stine) Finnen. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator at Milan Steel, retiring after 35 years of service, and was a member of Local 18 in Cleveland.
Dick was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Milan, Norwalk VFW where he played softball for many years, Norwalk Eagles and Son's of The American Legion in Milan. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed restoring old tractors, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly (Swicker) Finnen; two sons, Lee (Debra) Finnen and Craig (Marilyn) Finnen, both of Berlin Heights; three daughters, Deb Finnen of Milan, Kathy (Steve) Kayatin of Lima and Tammy (Nick) Blackford of Monroeville; 10 grandchildren, Jeff (Shelly) Finnen, Julie (Matt) Tyler, Corey and Kelsey Finnen, Kristin (Chris) Wilson, Adam and Scott Kayatin, and Gage, Wyatt and Jordan Blackford; six great-grandchildren, Clint, Cy, Taryn, Corey Jr., Lyric and Arabella "Boo"; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megan Kayatin; two brothers, James and Michael Finnen; and sister, Dorothy Smith.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1 S. Main St. Milan. Prayer services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Milan. The Rev. Frank Speier will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
