Todd L. Marshall, 46, of Huron, beloved husband, father and son, died unexpectedly in his home Sunday, March 14, 2010.
He was born Sept. 4, 1963, in Columbus to parents, Floyd and Sandra Marshall, and lived in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, graduating from Upper Sandusky High School in 1981. He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Biology (summa cum laude) from Bowling Green State University in May 1985, just nine months after he married his best friend, high school sweetheart and love of his life, Laura (Courtright), Aug. 4, 1984.
Prior to beginning a 16-year tenure as lecturer of biology at BGSU Firelands in 1993, Todd was a research assistant at Case Western Reserve University Medical School, received his M.S. in biology from University of Michigan through a National Science Foundation graduate fellowship award, and taught for three academic years at The Ohio State-Lima campus. Just three years into his time at BGSU Firelands he received the college's Distinguished Teaching Award and was nominated over a half-dozen times since then. At BGSU Firelands he served as officer and adviser to various faculty and student organizations, as well as chairing a number of search committees.
Todd actively participated in the community, serving as a leader for his son's Cub Scout den, as a judge for high school science fairs and invention conventions, organizing Earth Day clean-up days, and serving as a local advocate with the Erie County Solid Waste District Committee.
His greatest joys included his career playing and coaching high school football, vacationing with his family, fishing, landscaping, and cheering on his three children in cross country and their other endeavors. The best hours of his life were spent serving others, giving generously to all those in need.
Surviving family members include his wife, Laura (Courtright); daughter, Jessica (Joe) Ellis; sons, John, 22, and Joshua, 18; parents, Floyd and Sandra Marshall; and brothers, Craig and Matthew Marshall.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Zion Lutheran Church, 930 Main St., Huron, with the Rev. Raymond Vance officiating.
