Henry Jamal Thomas, 65, of Sandusky, loving companion, father, grandfather, and friend to many, departed this life Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 11, 1944, in Dayton, son of the late Arthur L. (1997) and Lilly B. (Tyson) Thomas (1989). He lived most of his life in Sandusky and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Henry attended Perkins High School. He loved track and ran the 440 in 51.3 seconds. He was employed by Sandusky Dressed Beef Packing Co. for a number of years. He later became self-employed in construction and home repairs. He loved singing and would often break out in song at various family functions. He enjoyed reading, especially the Bible, and he enjoyed gospel music.
Henry leaves to cherish his memory his companion/friend, Sharon Ray; four daughters, Theresa Walker Moore, Joyce Watson, Ravon Watson and Nigeria Katrice Thomas, all of Sandusky; his only son, Anwar Watson of Sandusky; special daughter/friend, Sierra Jewel Steible; sister, Dorothy "Snuggles" M. Hayes of Sandusky; brothers, Emmanuel "Bobby" Thomas, Leon "Tit" (Patricia) Thomas, Allen Thomas and Moses Thomas, all of Sandusky, Ernest "Ernie" (Cozette) Thomas of Richfield, Ohio, and Isaiah "Ike" Thomas of Toledo; grandchildren, Brittany, Charmeka, David, DaQuan, Savion, Tavio and Enzire; great-grandson, Anthony Redding Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Arthur L. Thomas Jr. (2006) and Robert E. Thomas (1989).
Family and friends are welcome to visit 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky; the Rev. Clayton E. Howard will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery.
