Janet M. Haas, 94, of Sandusky passed away Tuesday evening, March 9, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness, surrounded by family who sang comforting songs easing her through this last difficult journey.

Born in Perrysburg, Aug. 10, 1915, she was the daughter of Joseph and Edythe (Hufford) Curtis. She was a 1932 graduate of Monclova High School in Monclova, Ohio, where she lettered in basketball. In addition to raising a family of 11 children, Janet also clerked at the original Dick's Grocery and cooked for several local establishments. At the age of 75 she returned to the workforce, preparing meals for the priests at Sts. Peter & Paul Church until retirement at age 82. She enjoyed baking and cooking for friends and family and was an avid bingo player. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the women's choir.

She is survived by her children, William (Nova) Haas of Swanton, Ohio, Nancy Haas of Sandusky, Rita Haas of Philadelphia, Curtis "Pat" (Judy) Haas of Sterling, Va., Kathleen Canterbury of Sandusky, Ray (Janet) Haas of High Bridge, N.J., Marilyn "Yasha" (Kirk) Arant of Sterling, and Fred (Mary Frances) Haas, Matt (Sue) Haas and Janet (Gene) Lyons, all of Sandusky; 35 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Judi Haas of Findlay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Haas in 1977; sons, Timothy (10/8/41) and David (8/29/09); parents; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
