Jul 11, 2014

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich.

Magdalene "Muffy" M. Bruce, 84, died Feb. 15, 2007, in Michigan, after an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Huron, and lived 20 years before moving to Detroit. She then lived in Huron for the last 15 years before becoming ill.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was married to Richard Bruce for 40 years, and both were very hard-working, family oriented people. Mrs. Bruce was very involved with her children's lives. Not only was she a fulltime homemaker, but she also worked for GM and Sears. She was involved in the Church of St. Bede altar society. Her late son, Ernie, once said profoundly that she was a low maintenance person; she was a giver, not a taker. Her grandchildren felt she was a great role model, and her spirit for life was an inspiration to them. Mrs. Bruce had a knack to talk with people and make them feel better about themselves. She had many friends and was always there for them. Mrs. Bruce was an outstanding Italian cook and loved Florida and being outdoors, including spending time gardening. She also loved to play bingo and cards. She was very well read and knowledgeable about many things. Through her trials and tribulations in life she kept a very positive outlook until the end. Mrs. Bruce was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Bruce is survived by her children, Shelly and Richard (Janice) Bruce; grandchildren, Carrie (Mike) Crawley, Lauren, Andy (Norah), Nicholas, Christopher, Matthew and Alex Bruce; great-grandchildren, Annie, Lucy, Charlotte and Elizabeth; of her 10 siblings, Ted (Edna) Temper, Teresa (Sam) Todaro and Carmel (Joe) Michel, all of Huron, survive. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son Ernest; and daughter, Sharon Bruce.
