William "Bill" J. Nietfeld, 82, of Oak Harbor, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, in Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton.
He was born June 25, 1924, in Oak Harbor, to John E. and Vanda F. (Flaharty) Nietfeld. On July 29, 1950, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont, he married Lucille G. (Held), and she preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1997. Bill worked as a foreman/supervisor for Eaton Corporation in Fremont for 391/2 years, retiring in 1987. He also worked part-time as a farmer all of his life. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II, a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Oak Harbor, VFW Post 8732 of Oak Harbor, life member of John A. Fader American Legion Post 114 of Oak Harbor, Ottawa County Democrat Club, Ottawa County Farm Bureau, Ottawa County Farmer's Union, Ottawa County Veteran's Service Commission and a 4-H Adviser for 15 years.
Bill is survived by his son, Steven Nietfeld of Oak Harbor; daughters, Dianne (Joe) Lemon of Berlin Heights, Beverly (Ray) Krofft of Oak Harbor and Janice (Jim) Zipfel of Oak Harbor; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Gwendolyn "Sis" (Ervin) Apling of Oak Harbor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, John C. "J.C." Nietfeld.
Visitation was Tuesday and Wednesday. Prayers will be offered 10 a.m. today in Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor with full military gravesite rites by John A. Fader American Legion Post 114 and the VFW Post 8732.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Boniface Catholic School or the VFW Post 8732 Scholarship Fund.
