STEVENS POINT, Wis.
Rachel Ella (Grissom) Woodson, 85, of Stevens Point, Wis., and formerly of Sandusky, passed on Jan. 30, 2007, in St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point, after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 21, 1921, the second child of 12 to the union of Charles and Ruth (Latimer) Grissom, now deceased, in Simcoe, S.C. She spent her childhood in Sandusky and the majority of her adult life in Detroit. In 1997 she moved to Stevens Point with her youngest brother, George Grissom, and his family -- Patricia, Rashad and April.
During Rachel's life, she had the opportunity to ride the wave of different careers, with her favorite being a senior citizen social worker in the Detroit area.
Her memory will remain with her surviving family: Brothers, David (Shelly) Grissom, Lansing, Mich., Otis (Dorothy) Grissom of Detroit and George (Patricia) Grissom, Stevens Point; sister, Maxine (David) Corbitt of Sandusky; special nephew and niece, Rashad and April Grissom of Stevens Point; and other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Billy" Woodson, whom she married in 1955; parents; brothers, Charles, James, Richard, Jessie, Frank and Eugene; and sister, Mary (Grissom) Seavers.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Saturday until funeral services at 11 a.m. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Pastor Tracy Shoemo of Young World Ministries will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
