SANDUSKY
Leonard J. Winland, 91, of Sandusky, Ohio, died Monday evening, Feb. 12, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born July 16, 1915 in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late Milton A. and Ida M. (Green) Winland and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a former member of the Oxford Grange, the Teamsters Union and the Wee Campers group.
He worked for the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corps) in 1933. He was a former truck driver for Russell Transportation and retired from Bay Transportation of Port Clinton, Ohio, in 1976.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, woodworking and bird watching.
He is survived by his son and daughter in law, L. Scott and Joan Winland of Sandusky, Ohio. He is also survived by his daughters and sons in law, Verla M. "Cricket" and Ralph Munger of Sandusky, Ohio, and Lynne D. Disbrow of Sandusky, Ohio, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and by his sisters, Evelyn Nettles and Helen Paxton, both of Zanesville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel E. Winland, in 2003, by his son, Richard Winland, by his brothers, Harley, Milton Jr., Elmer and Arthur Winland; and by his sister, Amelia "Jane" Scanlan; and three grandchildren. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, Ohio. The Rev. Carl Woodyard, pastor of the Mt. Harvest Church of God, will officiate.
The committal service will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Meadowgreen Memorial Park, Bogart Road, Sandusky, Ohio.
