Hugh C. Niven died Thursday Feb. 8, 2007. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife, Jackie; his children, Amy (Roy) Schwarz, Randy Niven, Cary (Jeff) Brown, Darryl (Kelley) Niven; and his grandchildren, Jennifer and John Schwarz, Emily Brown, Paige and Grant Niven. We are grateful for the love and care that he gave us for so many years.
Hugh loved music. He had a beautiful tenor voice and was always a member of the church choir and the Sandusky Choral Society. In his younger days he was a fine pianist. He played in the band and orchestra in high school and in a small band after graduation.
Hugh served in the Navy during the Korean War. After his discharge, he went to Michigan State University on the GI Bill and graduated with a degree in engineering. He received his master’s degree from the Chrysler Institute of Engineering and then went to work at Ford Motor Company for 35 years. He was the resident engineer for the Sandusky Ford Plant and later a resident engineer at the Ford Lorain and Avon Lake Assembly Plant.
Hugh was active in his church and he was treasurer for the Cedar Cove Association for many years. His favorite sports were skiing and snowmobiling.
A memorial service to honor and remember Hugh will be today at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 431 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until service at 6 p.m. Following services, the celebration of Hugh’s life will continue at the Sandusky Yacht Club, 529 E. Water St., Sandusky.
Rather than flowers, Hugh would have appreciated contributions to his church if you wish to honor his memory in this way.
