Virgil J. Hoon, 94, of Sandusky, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, in Lutheran Memorial Home, Sandusky.
He was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Dixon, Tenn., to Ned. F. and Emma P. (Mooren) Hoon, now deceased, and came to this are in 1963 from Cleveland. He was a veteran of the Army serving in WW II at Normandy. He received the Purple Heart. He was a life member of Sandusky VFW Post 2529. He was a former employee of Swift and Company in Cleveland, co-owner of the Western Auto Store in Norwalk for 15 years and a former desk clerk for several Sandusky area motels. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Patsy Wolfe of Olena, Ohio; his son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Pam Hoon of Huron; grandchildren, Jason Wolfe of Olena, Kelly and Sean O'Brien of Toledo, Stacey and Brent Rush of Sunbury, Ohio, and Brian Hoon of Yuma, Ariz.; and great-grandson, Mason Rush of Sunbury.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jess Hoon.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Fred Wiechers, pastor of St. Peter Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
