Mary Lu Eldred, of Willard, was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, Jan. 16, after a brief illness.

She was born on July 21, 1937, in Willard, to the late Marion (Schlotterer) and Walter Frederick. She was a Willard-area resident her entire life. Mary Lu and her husband, Fred, graduated from Willard High School in 1955. She attended Mary Manse College in Toledo.

She was employed as a secretary at the former Pioneer Rubber Co. in Willard. Her accounting and financial skills were utilized in the family farm business. Besides caring for her brothers, sisters and immediate family, she also helped care for numerous relatives.

Mary Lu enjoyed working alongside her husband on the family farm. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed cake decorating and baking. Her extensive research on family genealogy yielded many volumes of ancestral descent. Mary Lu was a member of the former St. Sebastian Church, St. Sebastian Rosary Altar Society and St. Francis Study Club. She was also a member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo in Marywood and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia and Propagation of Faith. She was also Farm Bureau Council member.

Mary Lu was the oldest of six children. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Fred Eldred, her daughter, Deborah Fritz and son-in-law, Patrick. She especially enjoyed her blessed grandchildren, Jason and Evan Fritz. She was a devoted grandmother, who enjoyed participating in their many activities.

She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Judith (Kovach) Frederick of Middlesex, N.C.; Joseph and Kathleen (Long) Frederick of Pemberville; Michael and Marge (Biesiada) Frederick of Parma; and Robert and Barbara (Rhodes) Frederick of Brookfield, Conn.; sister and brother-in-law, Ann (Frederick) and Thomas Herner of Norwalk; sister-in-law and spouse, Carol (Eldred) and August Stacklin of Willard.

Mary Lu also enjoyed the closeness of numerous nephews and nieces.

Friends may call and 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Friday at Secor Funeral Home, Willard, where a prayer service will be 8:30 p.m.

Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. John Nagele officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Sebastian Catholic Cemetery in Bismark. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Heart Association, the Arthritis Foundation or to the donor’s choice.
